Karen M. Updike, DVM
Dr. Updike graduated from Michigan State University in 1994 and has practiced
here at Milwood Animal Clinic since ever since.  She and her husband, Dr. Curtis
Dame, took over ownership of the clinic in June of 1995.  She has a special
interest in avian and exotic pet medicine as well as animal behavior.  Dr. Updike
loves that, here at Milwood Animal Clinic, the doctors and staff take the time to
educate our clients so they can better understand the medical recommendations
we make for their pets.  She and her husband live with a Miniature Schnauzer
named Hazel, a Papillon Mix named Bingo, a ferret named Crash, t
wo budgies, a
Schneider's Skink, and a Russian Tortoise.  They also have two children, Amelia
and Mitchell.
Alissa M. Smitley, DVM
Dr. Smitley, also a 1994 graduate from Michigan State University, has been with
Milwood Animal Clinic since September 1997.  Her special interests are
reproductive medicine, exotic pet medicine, and ophthalmology.  She lives with
her husband, Jon and her daughter, Lelia.  She loves that here at Milwood we truly
and constantly strive to provide the most caring and comprehensive care to all our
patients.
Anna Constable
Barb Disney
Barb has been with Milwood Animal Clinic since 1996. She and her family are
transplants from Southern California. Barb has worked as a Veterinary
Technician, pet groomer, wildlife rehabilitator, and now as Milwood's Practice
Manager. The family pets include an Australian Shepherd dog, Shellie, a Jack
Russell Terrier mix, Paulie, and a Golden Retriever mix named Rooster . Barb
loves the atmosphere of progressive veterinary care at Milwood, the kindness and
respect that all patients are given, and that so many different species of animals
are cared for here.
Kerry Lombard
Kerry has been with us since May of 2006. He and his partner of 31 years share
their home with Pedro, a 4 year old rescued Chihuahua, and Alfie, a Chihuahua -
Peek-a-poo with an attitude. Kerry's favorite part of working at Milwood is getting to
see all the different animals:  dogs, cats, and exotics.  He also loves that all of the
staff really cares about all the pets we see.
Anna Constable
Anna started at Milwood in March of 2007. She is currently a full time student
attending both Western Michigan University and KVCC.  She and her long term
boyfriend Luke share their home with  Odetta, a small black mix pup, lovingly
called a "mop". Odetta is the cutest and most comical dog you will ever meet.  
Anna loves seeing all the different animals that she gets to meet on a daily basis
here at Milwood. She has also adopted a Mountain dragon lizard Dr. Gonzo.
Emily Browning
Emily came to us in November of 2006 from the Upper Peninsula.  She Graduated
from Western Michigan University in 2008 and is moving on to a Masters in
occupational Therapy.  She has two cats -Faline, and  Madmartigan, who enjoy
annoying one another. The newest addition to the family is Puck, a spunky little
dog with a big ol' attitude. Both kitties as well as the pup are Milwood rescues.  
Emily loves the variety of animals that we see and the different interesting cases.  
She also loves everyone she works with and meets here, they are all genuinely
nice people.
Kathleen Disney
Kathleen, or Katie started working at Milwood in February of 2007. She is also a
full time student at Western Michigan University and KVCC. She lives with her
sister and their new Chinchilla, Tila.  Katie loves the close family-like bond that the
employees share at Milwood and really values how much we care about  every
client and patient who comes here.
Kayla Dowden
Kayla has worked in the veterinary field since 1981 and at Milwood for 6 years.
She has been happily married to her husband Jack since 1980.  They have one
son, Drew, who recently graduated from Michigan State University. The family pets
are "Ripley," a border collie mix, and "Kip," a Domestic Longhair with an attitude.  
Kayla feels that our doctors provide excellent veterinary care to their patients, are
very concerned about client education, and do all they can to provide information
vital to pet health, including exotic pet care.
Susan Elizabeth Chappell
Susan started here in February of 2004. Susan has quite an extended family of
furry friends. "Lillian" is an adorable and naughty 10 year old tricolor beagle who
loves junk food and chasing her tennis ball.  Greyling and Jane are Susan's
domestic short hair cats who love massages and show you how to shake paws.
Jenna, Susan's 1 year old ferret enjoys stealing socks and hiding them under the
bed for you to find. Susan's 3 bunnies (a mini lop-eared, and 2 mini rex's) all love
basking in the sun and grazing on grass. Lastly are Ebony, the 16 year old
paint/quarter horse Overo mare and Susan's new filly.
Ian Brown
Ian joined Milwood's staff as a computer fix-it guy in December of 2006 but he
couldn't help but join all the fun animal work! He has attended Western Michigan
University from 1998-2001. About 1 year ago Ian met the love of his life, Aurora, a
black lab mix with an addiction to greenies (she has very clean teeth) and tennis
balls. He also has a red devil African cichlid who happens to be quite the bully.  
Ian likes that we try very hard to educate clients in order for them to make the best,
informed decisions about the care and feeding of their pets.
Kari Stasienko, BS, CPDT-KA
Kari joined Milwood in June of 2002. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree from
Grand Valley State University and earned her Certified Professional Dog
Trainer-Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) credential in October, 2009.  Kari
provides Puppy and Family Dog Classes on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays.  
In addition to dog training, Kari works with Dr. Updike to develop behavior
modification programs for canine and feline behavior problems.  For more

Kari is married with two sons.  Her "furry" children include Coby and Tyson - two
lazy pugs, Riley - an energetic lab mix who loves swimming and playing ball, and
Vento - a German Shepherd who is a police canine as well as a great family pet.  
Kari loves Milwood's team commitment to provide the best customer service as
well as the value we place in educating clients and recommending the best for
their pets - as if they were our own.
Tina Lamb
Tina has been with Milwood Animal Clinic since June of 2000. She has worked in
the field of veterinary sciences for 13 years. She has an associates degree from
KVCC and Lake Michigan college, both as an EMT Specialists as well as a
Medical assistant.  Tina's pet family consists of 3 dogs, 2 cats, 5 birds, and 1
horse, although you will often catch her pet sitting or watching over the needy as
well. Tina has a special interest is avian behavior and medicine. She loves to
work with the birds seen here at Milwood, particularly the large birds with a
diversified range of species.

Robin Baker
Robin joined our team in June of 2007.  She has over 30 years of dog and cat
grooming experience and has groomed throughout the Kalamazoo area during
this time.  Robin has 3 dogs:  Gracie, Marshall, & Pattie, and a calico cat named
Indian.
